I'm willing to swallow the website design update (even though it seems to actually look worse with my setup), but I really don't want the new comment system to come to Oppo. It's still extremely confusing to me, and I don't think it'd benefit our community in the slightest. Why can't we just keep what we're used to, especially since it works perfectly fine?
At the risk of coming across as whiny and crochety, I don't think I'll be able to use Oppo once the new system rolls in.

I'm kinda afraid of it. This works, finally works at that, but now we have to change it to one that makes no sense? Well, ok then.

I fucking hate the new commenting system. I can deal with the website changes but the commenting shit is completely ruined.

I agree, but I guess I'll get used to it

So much this!

I hate the new comment system too. It makes me feel like I'm going to miss a lot of discussion because it requires clicking through to see even just the first replies. I want less clicking. Not more.

Goodbye friends. Even with my IT know how I think I'm going to be lost in the void with the new commenting system.
My name will finally reflect truly how I feel when I go to make a comment.

I just recommended a post with the new layout and got a pop up notification that I had recommended it. I fucking know I did, I clicked the star!

Same here. I've tried to get used to it but I really can't. I hope I don't have to leave as well but that is how things are looking.

I don't mind. Shoot me.

SKZ is leaving too due to the new site. I'm all sad.

I agree. the current format isn't perfect, but it's easy to scroll through and see everybody's comments.
I'm also afraid of missing a ton of comments with the new format. I've been trying to understand it on Giz for the past week or so with no luck so far.

The thing is that it's very much not ok. We're at the mercy of some random decisions that make no sense and are actually detrimental to the community. There are loads of things about Kinja that need changing (they really need to work on the fucking reliability), but comments are one of the very last things that need touching up.

Agreed. Looking at the two back to back, I don't know how they justified the change. They took what we had, which works fine, and made it needlessly complex.

Jalopnik used to be a simple website where car enthusiasts came to share ideas and learn about the vast car culture. Now it has gotten extremely commercialized. Just look at the front page! It's about new cars. The car culture is slowly going away. Jalopnik=Autoblog

Well, the current system isn't exactly a gem. Getting stuck in the grey, clicking on a comment listing that there are two participants in a thread with 7, replies just seemingly randomly placed in threads? And, oh, does anyone remember when all of our Avatars just disappeared? I'm no fan of the new, but not a fan of the old either.

The current one works well on Oppo though. Cases of being stuck in the grey are rare, and with the more structured discussions we have here it's not a problem to deduce who's answering to who.
What's great about the current system is that it allows to quickly scroll through discussions to find what interests you. It also has clearly separated threads that get promoted to the top of the comment section in a semi-logical way (although it'd be nice for the author to have a way of promoting/demoting threads).

I honestly stopped giving a toss about Jalopnik a good few months ago. These days I rarely even go there to check out AOTD. What I do care about is Oppo, and that's what is soon going to get ruined because of an utter clusterfuck of a comment system.

Fair.

Looks like we need to start contributing to Oppo. Keep the party going. Remember, if your post is good you will bumped to the front page.
Keep the Jalop culture alive

I agree . when new people look at the new system and can't work it , they will leave , and the website(s) that use it will die .

If the new system is bad enough to make some of the current contributors consider leaving (an it is), new people stand no chance.
